Cholera’s main symptom is profuse, watery diarrhoea, causing rapid, severe dehydration. Vomiting and muscle cramps are also common.
While many cases are mild, severe cholera is life-threatening without immediate medical rehydration.

Dukoral is an oral cholera vaccine taken as a drink before travel. Adults take 2 doses; children aged 2 to 5 take 3. Protection lasts up to 2 years.

A dose of Dukoral costs £45. A full adult course of two jabs costs £90. The full course for children aged 2 to 5 is three doses and costs £135. Same-day vaccination No separate consultation fee
Try to finish the course at least one week before you travel. The two adult doses are taken one to six weeks apart, so book your first dose two to three weeks ahead to leave enough time.
Yes. Do not eat, drink, or take any oral medicines for 1 hour before and 1 hour after each dose. Inform your chemist of any regular medications at the time of consultation.
Yes. Dukoral is for children aged 2 and older. Those aged 2 to 5 require a 3-dose course for 6 months of protection. A booster is needed within 6 months to maintain immunity; otherwise, the entire course must be restarted.
Dukoral offers some protection against the Diarrhoea of Travellers caused by Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC). It is an added advantage in addition to its primary protection against cholera.
