Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the Yellow Fever vaccine for Peru?
It depends on your destination. Vaccination is recommended for Amazon/jungle regions below 2,300m but typically not for Lima, Cusco, or Machu Picchu. It is mandatory if arriving from endemic countries. Your ICVP certificate must be issued 10+ days before arrival.

Essential for Amazon or lowland jungle trips, but unnecessary for Lima, Cusco, or the Inca Trail. A clinician will confirm needs based on your route.

Highly recommended for Cusco (3,400m), the Sacred Valley, or trekking. Acetazolamide (Diamox) is available for eligible adults following a consultation and home trial dose.

Yes. Zika risk exists in Peru’s coastal and low-altitude jungle regions, spread by Aedes mosquitoes. While typically mild for most, pregnant travellers or those planning pregnancy should seek specialist advice.

Hepatitis A and Typhoid start at £50 per dose. Yellow Fever is £75 (includes ICVP), and Rabies is £85 per dose for the 3-dose course. There is no consultation fee if vaccines are administered during your visit.

Stop ascending, rest, hydrate, and avoid alcohol or strenuous activity for 24–48 hours. Use prescribed Acetazolamide as directed. If symptoms like confusion or breathlessness at rest worsen, descend immediately and seek medical care.
